About ariadnescloset

Hey! Ariadnes Closet has been born from me taking a complete life change in my 40's! Ahem! Left my job after a period of ill health and up-sticks moved from our bustling lives as "townies" across to the other side of the country, in the peaceful Lincolnshire countryside! So, what's a girl to do with herself in her country cottage? Sew of course! Ariadne is a Greek Goddess who was the keeper of the labyrinth and who used her ball of thread to weave the universe. Her tale encourages us to follow our own path, weave our way through to our ultimate destiny! So to design and create these beautiful, earthy and individual items for you to enjoy is where my path has taken me! The wonderful thing is that these items can be still changed further by their owners to suit their mood or their needs as they tread their own paths! How exciting!

WORST NIGHTMARE…….!!!!!!

Standard

Well, there I was, just washed a new dress I’d made for myself (quite pleased with it too) and just took it off the washing line to iron and THERE IT WAS!!!!frigging ugly brown spider with yellow spots crawling all over my dress! WAAAAAHHHHH!!!!
Well, of course, I promptly took said dress outside for a good shaking but then realised I didn’t see it fall on the floor!
With cold sweaty realisation it dawned on me that the dress was made with ENORMOUSpockets within which said spider could now be making itself at home quite nicely!
Now, shaking a spider off a dress is one thing but delving into pockets the size of handbags (purses for my American friends) was not a task I relished. Nevertheless, with Indiana Jones-like bravery in I went but alas, no reward and the position of the spider remains a mystery to me.
Consequently, I now itch and crawl all over! Brrrrrrrr! I truly hate that but at least they are usually littluns! This was much bigger! I know! Such a woos! But there it is!

Oh, and sorry for not blogging much later but I’ve not been tickety boo with a prolapsed disc in my back! The Amy Winehouse level of medication that I’m on (and I TRULY promise no disrespect to the awesomely talented Amy) has finally got the pain under control PLUS I now have a new sewing maching so hope to be back and producing more bits n bobs soon!

Love to you all!

So what does a sewist do with no sewing machine? :(

Standard

So, disaster strikes! My poor Etsy store is looking a bit sparse at the moment and I’ve been beavering away planning and starting to sew more stock.

However, my poor little sewing machine decided that enough was enough and freaked out every time I tried to sew more than 5 inches! Waaaahhhh!

So, little sewing machine has gone into retirement and I’ve had to put my overlocker on EBay to boost my Tracey-needs-a-new-sewing-machine fund. 😦

So, what does a girl do whilst waiting to be blessed with better equipment? “Ahem!” She makes accessories!

Fabric flowers to be more specific!

I’ve decided that I want to photograph my new dresses with the models wearing co-ordinating floral wrist cuffs, headbands, brooches, etc. So this seemed as good a time as any to get this done!

There are so many brilliant tutorials on the net that are easily found by putting “fabric flower tutorials” into Google or Pinterest. Believe me, it’s an awesome way to use up your scrap fabric and there is no end of inspiration out there! Give it a go guys!

The BBC have launched a new show looking for ALL KINDS of crafters to come and demonstrate their awesome skills on the show! This could be your big moment guys!

You must not make your primary income from the craft you are intending to display, however. So, if this is you, grab your chance of fame and fortune and check out this link to get the ball rolling! Good luck!

A little bit of mindfulness from the British countryside!

No sewing chat today! Well not much anyway!
Here in the UK Mother Nature is certainly taking her sweet time in allowing spring to be sprung and even – dare I even dream – to let summer get a look in!
Where I live always seems even more “harsh” in weather terms as we are on the coastline of north east Lincolnshire in the UK with farmers fields on 3 sides of us and a sand flat nature reserve on the 4th side! So, although surrounded by such beauty, we are very exposed.
Nevertheless, today the sun is shining and, as I was hanging out the washing, I became aware of the amazing sound of the peaceful place in which my family and I live!
The wind has taken a more gentle tone and is now just rustling through the trees rather than trying to uproot them! With it the amazing smell from the hawthorn blossoms perfumes everything around me. As my laundry is batted to and fro there is a gentle squeak and clunk from the posts supporting the washing line, putting me in mind of the sound you would hear whilst sailing a yacht with its sails hoisted. And the birdsong! Living in the countryside AND by a nature reserve I am coming to learn to recognise the song and the appearance of birds I’ve never even seen before, such as the sweet little yellow hammer!
It’s also my birthday today! Eek – there goes another year – but my gift to myself was to simply allow myself the time to sit, coffee in hand and cat by my side, (you will never find me far from either of those!) and just enjoy the beautiful, captivating sounds of nature just being nature!
Have a great day everyone! ❤

The Shop is Open!

Standard

Woohoo! Well, after a bit of a rushed week making clothing, sorting out a model (thank you Kelly – you looked gorgeous!) I was finally able to get 3 items into my shop!
Things seem to be going so slowly for the moment and, as finances aren’t as great as they could be, it’s not easy buying provisions to make more stock but we will get there! Still working WordPress out too so have a lot on my plate for now! Poor little brain will be going into meltdown!

And so it begins…..!

Standard

Hi! Well here we are then! Ariadnes Closet is my blog depicting my journey of setting up and managing what I hope to be a flourishing small business of gawjuss clothing suited to those who like something a little different, flowing, organic, quirky, clever…! Well, this is my plan!

This all came about after a period of ill health.  My husband, son and daughter and I all lived in a crowded large town with all the pressure that brings and decided to just up-sticks and motor off to the opposite side of the country for a complete life change! So we are know in the most rural spot we could find in the beautiful Lincolnshire countryside, surrounded by fields and bordering a nature reserve!

I had left my job and found myself at a crossroads as to where my life was going, so this is where it has brought me! Knocking on the door of Ariadnes Closet! Ariadne is a Greek Goddess, walker of the labyrinth Imageand weaver of the web of the universe. In short, she encourages us to weave our own way through the twists and turns of life, guided by her thread! And so the name for the venture was born! My products will be sold through www.ariadnescloset.etsy.com my new Etsy store, and I truly do welcome suggestions or requests so don’t be shy!

This blog will follow my trials and tribulations in getting all of this off the ground and also offer some insights into my life, such as it is! Also, I’m a total novice to blogging so please be patient with me! I am a good learner but always self taught so it takes a while!

Now, how to post this and make it look pretty….
